Recently I received a text about a new set of wheels from Vision. An all-new beadlock with the ability to inflate and deflate your tires from an app. Bringing military style central air to the masses.
It got me thinking.
I tried to think of a single time when I needed something like this. I could think if times where lockers got me over an obstacle, where a winch got me unstuck, where a kinetic rope pulled out a wheeling partner. Not one time could I think of a situation where central tire inflation with an app would have made my life easier. Maybe at the end of the day to fill up while I get a coffee, or upon arrival to hit my preferred 12 PSI in my tires.
Then it turns out the sort of viral post was all a lie.
The setup we thought, which was a wheel mounted, blue tooth controlled inflation system wasn’t real. It turned out to be a military style Central Tire Inflation System (CTIS) instead of a slick new setup.
Which is even more disappointing than not needing it anyway. Immediately limiting in it’s application and with an extravagant cost to install it lacks any practical use case.
Would you use a CTIS if it was affordable or is it just extra junk?
I’m on the fence. I love widgets and gadgets but I also crave simplicity in my life as i get older. I struggle to see where a CTIS would be a benefit. Let me know what you think.
